And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled 22 In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight: 23 If ye continue in the faith grounded and settled, and be not moved away from the hope of the gospel, which ye have heard, and which was preached to every creature which is under heaven; (King James Version, Colossians 1:21–23a)
Amazing! Amazing grace! You are amazing! To think that You brought us from enmity to full peace with You through the blood of Your dear Son is too wonderful for us to even imagine, yet it is true. By His death You restored us in the flesh, that we would be holy and without blame in Your sight. This is the faith in which we are fixed, unmovable like a tree planted by rivers of water. The hope of the gospel keeps us firm and the Word, which has been declared to all creation, that by Your grace we have heard, keeps us through all eternity. Glory to Your Name!
whereof I Paul am made a minister; 24 Who now rejoice in my sufferings for you, and fill up that which is behind of the afflictions of Christ in my flesh for his body’s sake, which is the church: 25 Whereof I am made a minister, according to the dispensation of God which is given to me for you, to fulfil the word of God; 26 Even the mystery which hath been hid from ages and from generations, but now is made manifest to his saints: 27 To whom God would make known what is the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles; which is Christ in you, the hope of glory: (King James Version, Colossians 1:23b–27)
You sent Your servant, Paul, to labor for You bringing Your gospel to the world. He, like so many You sent, worked tirelessly till his death to see to it that we would know You and the Good News You worked through Your Son. Through him You revealed that great mystery, making it plain to all those You consecrated, that Christ is now in us. Now by this great knowledge we experience the riches of that glory and it is the hope of that glory that sustains us even this day. Reveal Yourself in us again by Your Spirit this day and receive all glory, honor and praise as You are due.
Whom we preach, warning every man, and teaching every man in all wisdom; that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus: 29 Whereunto I also labour, striving according to his working, which worketh in me mightily. (King James Version, Colossians 1:28–29)
Holy is Your Name! You desire that all people would be saved and come to the knowledge of the truth. That truth is found in Your Son, Jesus the Christ. It is in Him that You have brought completion, perfection, so that by that great wisdom which You have imparted, we may reside in peace in Him through Your Holy Spirit. Let us join in that task of bringing the knowledge of Jesus’ finished work to all around us that they may know the cleansing power of His blood and find rest for their souls in You.
For I would that ye knew what great conflict I have for you, and for them at Laodicea, and for as many as have not seen my face in the flesh; 2 That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ; 3 In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. (King James Version, Colossians 2:1–3)
It is true, all treasures of wisdom and knowledge are hidden in You. Yet glory be to You, You have chosen to reveal Your great majesty in Jesus the Christ, Your Son and through the power of His sacrifice You have restored all of us to “Sonship” in Him. You have brought us all together in that great love that, united, we may acknowledge You as God and Your Son as the Christ by the Holy Spirit. Fill us this day by Your Holy Spirit that blessed with that knowledge we may be Your instruments of grace to Your world.
And this I say, lest any man should beguile you with enticing words. 5 For though I be absent in the flesh, yet am I with you in the spirit, joying and beholding your order, and the stedfastness of your faith in Christ. (King James Version, Colossians 2:4–5).
In Your mercy, You have given us a fellowship deeper than any other. You have made us one in Christ. We are joined in perfection in the communion of saints. We are bound to one another in the Spirit and physical separation cannot break that bond. You keep us steadfast in faith by that tie that unites us. Let us edify and strengthen one another in that faith this day, lifting up and upholding one another in prayer that Your body on earth be strengthened so that we not be drawn away from the truth but rather be found at peace in the same.
As ye have therefore received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk ye in him: 7 Rooted and built up in him, and stablished in the faith, as ye have been taught, abounding therein with thanksgiving. (King James Version, Colossians 2:6–7)
